2023 Scholarship Winners Announced

Associated Orthodontists is exited to announce the six winners of its Annual Scholarship Program. The Associated Orthodontist scholarship is open to all current and former patients that are graduating high school seniors with a GPA of at least 3.0 and received full orthodontic care. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied directly to their tuition at a college, university, vocational training or technical school. Applications were reviewed by a panel at Associated Orthodontists, and were chosen based on submitted essays, academic achievements, and participation in school and community activities.

2023 Scholarship Winners

KINSEY BAKHAUS
Kinsey is a student at Plainfield Central High School and is looking forward to attending CarthageCollege this fall to study communications. Academically, she has been named to both the Honor Roll andHigh Honor Roll, plus nominated twice for the National Honor Society. As a member of the school’s volleyball team, she belongs to the Wildcat AthleticLeadership Club, has received the PCHS MVP Award, the American VolleyballCoaches Association Brightest Award and has been named All-Conference for three consecutive years. Additionally, she is a choir sectional leader, member of theSports Performance volleyball club, coaches Little Tots volleyball and assists local middle schools with their teams. In her spare time, you’ll find Kinsey assisting with local blood drives, working the deli at school concessions and serving as a hostess at Freedom Brothers Pizzeria.

ISABELLE KOSTBADE 
Isabelle is a resident of Coal City and attends Coal City High School. This fall, she will be attending Olivet Nazarene University. During her high school career, Isabelle was active in theatre, choir, Madrigals, band, speech team, plus both the science and drama clubs. She also received the following honors: Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Illinois Music Honor Society, IHSA State Qualifier in Speech and All-Conference Honor Choir. Outside of school, you’ll find Isabelle donating her time as a Crew Leader for vacation bible school and participating in her church’s choir.

ZACHARY PEKOL 
A senior at Joliet Catholic Academy, Zachary has been named this year’s Salutatorian,and will be attending Lewis University to pursue a degree in elementary education. As a student at JCA, he was a member of the student council, Kiwanis KEY Club, math team, plus multiple academic and extracurricular clubs — where he held several leadership positions. Zachary has also been named to the National HonorSociety, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and MuAlpha Theta math honor society. Outside of the classroom, he stayed active on the varsity cross country, basketball and volleyball teams, plus was a member of the UNO Volleyball Club. He’s active in his community through volunteering atHabitat for Humanity, Minooka Schools and several area youth sports camps.

LUKE PEKOL 
Luke is a senior at Joliet Catholic Academy, and will serve as this year’s Valedictorian. He looks forward to beginning is college career this fall at Lewis University. Luke was active at JCA as a member of the cross country, basketball and volleyball clubs, plus was a member of the UNO Volleyball Club. He also served as a member the student council, math team, scholastic bowl and Kiwanis KEY Club, in addition to holding leadership roles in several other academic and extracurricular organizations. Academically, Luke was a member of the National Honor Society, MuAlpha Theta math honor society, Spanish Honor Society and English Honor Society. In his free time, you’ll find him volunteering at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, local breast cancer fundraisers and multiple sports camps for area youth.

KAITLYN REGNIER 
A resident of Frankfort and senior at Lincoln-Way East High School, Kaitlyn will be attending the Chemical Engineering program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She has been named an Illinois State Scholar, AP Scholar with Honors and has received the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy. Additionally, she’s a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta,Science Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club and Interact Club. As anAll-Conference Athlete, she has participated in both competitive and sideline cheerleading and donates her time to coaching youth cheerleading with the Frankfort Falcons, LWE Cheer Camps and Wildcats Cheer Camps.

SEBASTIAN WHITE 
Sebastian attendsBradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and resides in Bourbonnais. This fall, he will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to studyAerospace Engineering. As a student at BBCHS, Sebastian was an Illinois StateScholar, AP Scholar and Leo Club Member. He was also named to the High HonorRoll, National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Outside of the classroom, Sebastian participated on the school’s tennis, soccer and bowling teams — plus was a member of both the Symphonic and Pit Orchestras. Additionally, he was a member of the Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra,playing in its  concerts and productions of “The Little Mermaid,” “Oklahoma!” and “Anastasia.”
