Associated Orthodontists Celebrates National Orthodontic Health Month

Together with the American Association of Orthodontists, Associated Orthodontists is celebrating National Orthodontic Health Month. Each year, the month of October is dedicated to creating awareness about orthodontic health and care.“Orthodontic health offers more than straight teeth and a beautiful smile,” said Dr. David Cortopassi with Associated Orthodontists. “While the end goal is a good bite and a bright smile, there are a number of health benefits that accompany orthodontic treatment.”

  • Oral Disease: When teeth are not properly aligned, there are more areas where food and bacteria can collect – leading to increased plaque, cavities and risk for oral diseases. Additionally, recent studies have shown a link between poor oral health and other diseases like cardiovascular, dementia and diabetes.
  • Jaw Problems: Unaligned teeth can place undue stress on the jaw. This can lead to problems with the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), as well as weakened teeth and an increased risk for chipped or broken teeth.
  • Injuries: When teeth are unaligned or protruding, the mouth and teeth are more prone to injury, especially when playing sports or participating in activities.
  • Other Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social benefits:
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Positive social and professional impact
  • A fuller, wider smile
  • Better facial balance
  • Improved profile and a more youthful appearance
  • Increased chance of keeping adult teeth
  • Long-term cost savings on overall dental health
